Reflection
The ability to stand back.
If you cannot step away from the minutia of the work that you are involved in you will find it extremely difficult to understand the consequences that your leadership action is having.
Awareness
The ability to notice.
Just stepping back is not enough. You need the ability to use that time to openly explore and to interpret. It is not enough to see something; you must also understand it.
Action orientation
The ability to get on and do something.
Your ability to
REFLECT and to be AWARE need to be followed up with appropriate practical, observable and measurable action.
Flexibility
The ability to flex
your "Leadership Style".
You need to have the ability to diagnose the situation and choose a leadership style to suit. Your ability to use a full range of styles from "telling" to delegating is critical.
